Tsu’Chu Biz gives 13-19 year olds their first opportunity to experience entrepreneurship and the business world in a fun, safe and inspiring environment. It opens their minds to a world of possibilities. It gives them a chance to change their futures.
Described by some as a mini MBA for teenagers, Tsu’Chu Biz has been successfully running across the UK since 2007. Taking place generally in a university venue, the course is a unique collaboration between business, universities and professional football.
The course takes its name from Tsu'Chu which is the ancient Chinese form of football from around 250 BCE, widely recognised as the date when the global game originated.
In just four days all the young participants who have chosen to work as either a sole trader or a business partnership, practise their newly developed team, leadership and presentation skills and develop a 10 page business plan for their own viable ready-to-go business. The business plans and financial projections are all developed based on the amount of time the young people are able to devote to their business given their school work and or life style.
Mastery of emotions and managing stress and pressure situations is critical to emotional intelligence. With our changing world stress situations are inevitable, particularly so for some of our young people. The Tsu’Chu Biz course uses the game of football to introduce to its young entrepreneurs simple techniques to recognise internal stress, reduce it and increase confidence. Using these techniques during the course breeds quick successes, these are powerfully embedded in the brain’s memory bank making it simple to recall and use another time in other situations in their lives.
On the final afternoon the young people make a PowerPoint presentation of their business idea to a distinguished panel of successful business people and in front of an invited audience of family, friends, teachers and peers.
Cash prizes are awarded to the top three successful start-ups. Where possible the assistance of volunteer Business Mentors is offered to help take their ideas forward.
All young people who complete the course are encouraged to continue to develop their skills through Further and Higher Education and are awarded 20 UCAS points and 10 credits towards a university degree.
