In wanting to give back to a younger generation, Susan Kaye and Tony Woodcock (co-founders) have taken the best of their collective expertise and international experience (almost 70 years) to design and develop the Tsu’Chu Biz course.
Looking at the best and the worst of football Susan conducted some extensive research into the 2500 year history of football which draws out patterns, themes, attitudes and values that have been prevalent in the game over the ages. This history-take is used at the beginning of the Tsu’Chu Biz course to introduce to the young people how the game of football has adapted over the centuries, how Kings and paupers have loved and played the game, how it was banned for its violence and how it has been reinvented and changed again. With such a history and how when played today at the highest level, in the right hands, it can truly be called upon as a great ‘teacher’.
Tsu’Chu Biz was born in 2007 designed with specific intention; to use the professional game of football to help young people become more aware about themselves and how they respond to others in group, team and professional situations; to encourage a hunger to learn; to tap into their talents and passions; to apply the business finance learning to their own business idea. And finally to discover, inspire and help to develop our Young Entrepreneurs of the Future.
Since early 2007 The Challenge of Excellence has been successfully delivering the 4-day Tsu’Chu Biz course to young people aged 13-19 years. The course culminates in the creation of a ready-to-go small business based on their own passions, interests and talents. Over 1000 young people across the UK have participated since the pilot courses began in 2007, targeting the following teenage groups:
Mixed school groups; mixed gender groups; all girls; all boys; young offender and youth inclusion groups; single class tutor groups where a one year comparative study showed that the achievement gaps between girls and boys had narrowed; business studies groups; sports studies groups; low ability groups; high ability groups; mixed ability groups; non English speaking groups (with translators); two year age band groups. In addition, the course has been effectively delivered to wider age band groups and adult groups.
In 2008 the first international course was delivered in the UAE and since then eight further courses have been run in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. More recently the first adult course was run for university students aged 21-37 years of age and more are in the pipeline. In 2011 the first course in Germany took place and tentative plans are beginning for South Africa and India.
Without exception the methods, practices, information provided and results of the course have been significant considering such a wide target audience. Tsu’Chu Biz course is a holistic, practical and easily replicated approach to learning that is both inspirational and aspirational. Testimonials are available.
From 2007 until July 2011 the Tsu’Chu Biz course has been delivered through The Challenge of Excellence Ltd, an internationally focused social enterprise founded in 1988 by Susan Kaye. The Challenge of Excellence was established to provide personal, team, leadership and business development for executive and president level organisations and family businesses, as well as strategic visioning, conflict management, coaching and counselling.
In July 2011 the Charity Commission awarded charitable status to the Tsu’Chu Biz Foundation (TCBF), charity number 1142764. All Tsu’Chu Biz courses will now be delivered through the Foundation.
